The boys hung out at the tradiing post during free time, or before and after merit badge classes.  Mr. Karg and Mr. Maddox stayed at the camp during the week, and Mr. Moran and Mr. Bosworth drove the boys to and from camp.

Mr. Ford and the boys' parents brought picnic dinners to the Campsite on Wednesday, June 10, and stayed for the Order of the Arrow campfire.

Several scouts were recognized at the Friday night closing campfire with special awards: Michael Hankes received the Trail to Eagle Award; Joshua Karg received the Citizenship in the World Award.

Hiking the Appalachian Trail
Written by Steve Karg
Wednesday, 18 March 2009
ImageTroop 226 backpacked the Appalachian Trail in Georgia for 3 days during Spring break.  Three adult leaders drove and backpacked: Mr. Ford, Mr. Bosworth, and Mr. Karg.  The Scouts,  Ashton, Ben, Michael, Andrew, Sam, Joshua, Colin, and Cameron, began at Dicks Creek Gap on Saturday and hiked 3.5 miles to Deep Gap Shelter, where coffee and cocoa warmed the boys, and macaroni and cheese filled their stomachs.  The troop spent the night in tents since the shelter was already occupied.  The Sunday hike was a 7.5 mile hike to Tray Mountain Shelter, with a break for summer sausage, cheese, and crackers for lunch.  Dinner was served at Tray Mountain Shelter, and Joshua led vespers.  Oatmeal was served again on Monday morning for breakfast, and the troop hiked 5.6 miles to the cars at Unicoi Gap. See the photos in the photo gallery.
